bio / about
Luis Guaragna is an Italo-Argentinian comic book artist and illustrator whose work is fueled by a lifelong passion for cinema and visual storytelling. With over 25 years in the industry, Luis has brought dark worlds, epic adventures, and rich human stories to life for readers across the globe.
Formally trained in Film and Audiovisual Design (Diseño de Imagen y Sonido) in Argentina, Luis approaches the comic page with a director’s eye for pacing, framing, and atmosphere. His journey began in his home country, where he illustrated the official comic adaptation of the hit video game Mortal Kombat and co-founded the influential independent publisher La Productora.
Since then, his art has crossed borders and genres. A lifelong fan of genre storytelling, Luis has spent a decade collaborating with legendary filmmaker John Carpenter for Storm King Comics. He has also contributed to the iconic Heavy Metal Magazine, stepped into the world of a fantasy giant by illustrating Frank Frazetta’s Mothman, and created character art for global gaming giant Electronic Arts (EA). In Europe, Luis is a prominent fixture in the Scandinavian book market, having illustrated numerous Middle Grade and YA graphic novels—ranging from urban fantasy to post-apocalyptic sci-fi—for premier publishers in Norway and Denmark.
Today, Luis is based in Tromsø, Norway, where he lives with his partner and daughter. When he isn’t at the drawing board, he draws daily inspiration from classic cinema, the complexities of human nature, and the dramatic Arctic landscapes around him.
